About ME

On my TO DO list is a 300kg deadlift and 250kg Olympic squat with no belt.

I am currently 31 years old.

Up until I was about 20 I trained for the hammer throw. The squat and deadlift were two of the staples I enjoyed. At 19, I squatted 195kg (parallel) and deadlifted 245kg with no belt. When I was 21-23, I dabbled in a few powerlifting competitions. Since then I have only been in the gym infrequently, and more for general fitness.

I decided to get serious in August 2011. From August through to mid-December, I worked on building a solid platform from which I could launch myself into a serious lifting program. After an extensive review of the literature on the web, I came across A Few Words with Weightlifting Coach John Broz  on the Charles Poliquin website. This article as well as Poliquin’s article on Best Tips For Maximal Squat made me realise that a strong squat required squatting on a daily basis. I looked for as much information as possible on the training PHILOSOPHY of John Broz as applied to weightlifting and his thoughts on powerlifting and decided his approach was for me.

I work fulltime as a Client Advisor for a financial firm. I am also studying part-time for my Masters of Arts (Philosophy) in addition to work-related study. Given my plate is rather full, I can only afford to spend 2-3 hours/day training in the morning at this stage.

I take 20g of fish oil (to help with joint pain, my knees are in constant pain from squatting), 10000 IU of Vitamin D and 1000IU of Vitamin E per day. I aim to get 8 hours of sleep every night.
